Content warning for discussion of suicide and drug use throughout the episode. Anthony Bourdain was a chef, TV host, writer, and an important cultural icon in the field of food writing. His legacy lives on in his numerous works, and he was a big inspiration to Allen, so their Pickle this week is his first book, Kitchen Confidential. We discuss the recurring podcast theme of labor that is worth doing, the way people write about food, and the changing conditions of kitchen culture since the novel's publishing in 2000. We dip in and out of discussion of Bourdain's life as well, and I like to think we came to a point of understanding and appreciating his legacy in both positive and critical ways.
